Anterior Approach to Surgery by Dr. Waldman

10/24/05 From Dr. Waldman's Website

I've been working on developing an anterior approach to the hip with other hip surgeons around the country. We've now done a few cases with the anterior approach and it appears to be working extremely well. Out first patients have had little to no pain, and walk without a limp almost immediately. I also feel that it will be prove to be much safer than the two-incision hip. The surgery can be done under direct vision of the surgeon and does not require an x-ray machine like the two-incision approach. It also does not require the patient to be placed in traction or on a special OR table. I'm very excited about the possibilities and we are planning to continue with selected patients. This procedure has the potential to be appropriate for even very large patients.
