Left Wright C+ October 31, 2006  Dr. Stachniw

My experience was great. Dr. Stachniw, his staff, and especially Debra, who I guess is his nurse, are all very knowledgeable, friendly, professional, etc. The entire team, and that's all the support personal at St. Mary's (one of the hospitals in Galesburg Dr. Stachniw uses) also know exactly how they fit in to the whole process and are also professional, knowledgeable, friendly, supportive, etc.

The hospital itself was very clean and surprisingly pleasant. I had more of a suite than a room. Had hospital bed, lounge chair, convertible love seat - bed, (where my wife slept) TV, and other furniture. It appears Dr. Stachniw brings a lot of business in and the hospital has done all it can to accommodate him and his patients.

My wife is an RN and she thought I could find a closer Dr. We're 180 miles away. However, after this experience she agreed it was well worth the inconvenience of the extra distance. I never expected a hospital to be this nice and I had several recent experiences with family who were in hospitals that were unbelievable bad, short staffed, negative people, lack of response to patient buzzer, not as clean, certainly nowhere near as comfortable.

I had very little discomfort. I could put weight on my leg that day after surgery. I used a walker and cane mostly to humor those who said I had to, I never felt I needed it. Used little pain meds, I was shocked to have no pain the first couple of days.

I start PT today, am walking well, stiff when I first get up from sitting, I use the cane the first few steps, then don't need it at all.
