Dr. Ferro Medical Profile

Dr. Thomas Ferro is a board-certified,
fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and Medical Director
of the Bone & Joint Center in San Luis Obispo and Arroyo
Grande, California. He is widely regarded in the medical
community as the leader in providing breakthrough joint
replacement technology on the Central Coast of California.
Dr. Ferro performs the most joint replacements in the region
– more than 400 each year.
Dr. Ferro earned his MD at the University of California, San
Diego. He continued on to fulfill his internship there and
was awarded a research fellowship in orthopedic surgery at
UCSD as well. He completed his residency at the University
of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
Dr. Ferro earned an additional fellowship in joint
replacement and adult reconstructive surgery at the
prestigious Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in
Arlington, Virginia. There, he trained with Dr. Charles Engh,
a world renowned authority on joint replacement and pioneer
of innovations in joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Ferro has traveled extensively abroad for training on
the latest joint surgery advancements. He is an expert in
Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, surgical navigation, ceramic
joint surfaces and other state-of-the-art techniques.

Virginia, Dr. Ferro has contributed many published research

total joint arthroplasty include minimally invasive surgical
techniques, partial knee replacements, hip resurfacing,
computer assisted surgery, and bearing surface wear
reduction.
Dr. Ferro is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic
Surgery.
