Dr. Jacob's Interview |
Michael A. Jacobs, M.D., graduated from
the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
in New York, where he was elected a member of elite academic
fraternity Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). He completed his
internship in general surgery at the Hospital of the
University of Pennsylvania, as well as residencies in the
combined Harvard orthopedic program at Massachusetts General
Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s
Hospital.
After residency, Dr. Jacobs completed further education with
fellowships in trauma and joint replacement at Brigham and
Women’s Hospital and in adult reconstructive orthopedic
surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Jacobs is chief of orthopedic surgery at Good Samaritan
Hospital, a position he has held since 2000. He also is an
assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Johns
Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Jacobs is
chairman of the industry and technology committee of the
American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and a member
of numerous other national organizations.
During his career, Dr. Jacobs has served as the team
orthopedist for professional sports teams, including the
Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Bandits American Hockey
League.
Good to Know: His specialties include joint reconstruction,
minimally invasive hip/knee replacements, hip/knee revision
surgery, cartilage restoration, as well as sports-related
injuries of the shoulder and knee. Dr. Jacobs is actively
involved in research projects using hip resurfacing devices.
