My husband had an LBHR with DeSmet yesterday and all I can say
is "WOW"
Everything has exceeded our expectations.
We arrived at the Villa Cento Passi on November 5th around noon.
We were greeted by the Villa staff as if we had just arrived home. Our luggage
was taken to our room (#6) and we were told that lunch was being served in the
Villa's restaurant. The food was incredible and we were able to meet others who
were scheduled for surgery and others who already had the surgery. The first
person we met was a bilateral who had the procedure done 9 days previous to our
arrival. She was very happy and was walking around much better than we expected
she would be so soon after surgery. We had preoperative testing right in the
Villa and we met personally with Dr. De Smet the evening before surgery. He
instantly put our minds at ease and answered every one of our questions without
any hesitation.
My husband's surgery was yesterday at 2:00 p.m. and we had a
driver from the Villa take us directly to the hospital. The only hard part for
me was that no one gave me an update on how the surgery went. He arrived in the
room 6 hours later with a morphine drip and antibiotic drip and he was wide
awake. He was not complaining of pain, he said that he was "uncomfortable." I
left him sleeping at the hospital at 10:30 p.m. This morning I went to the
hospital at 8:30 a.m. and he was eating breakfast, fully dressed and off all
pain killers! Approximately 2 hours later he was standing and walking the
hallways! The therapist said that every hour that went by today he would feel
better and better. She was right. He had a fantastic day and did not complain of
pain at all. He said that his left hip was really tight and sore but he was not
painful.
Tomorrow morning he will start walking the stairs and will come back to the
Villa at 11:00 a.m. The best part is that all therapy will take place at
the Villa.
This is the best decision we could have made for his hip. Thank you to everyone
who posts on this site with their triumphs and victories. We read
almost every post and this site was instrumental in our decision to come to
Belgium. Please consider coming to Belgium for this procedure, it has been
a truly incredible experience. Also, for us it was cheaper to come to
Belgium than to stay in the U.S. and have it done.
