Dr. John Antoniou replaced two hips with the articular resurfacing. The first one was done in 2007 the second one this summer 2009. I am 69, perhaps one of the older gals that have had this done. My recovery has been good and the first one I had done feels wonderful.

I was so happy that I had the resurfacing done. I originally was going to do the old complete replacement until I read an article about Dr. Antoniou in a Readers Digest article.

All I can say is God bless Dr. Antoniou for doing this for me. I'll soon be dancing again.

My husband calls me "The Nutcracker", lol.

Well as far as I know if your bones are good you are a good candidate no mater what your age. I was scheduled to have the regular hip replacement and I was uncomfortable with it but I thought I didn't have any other choice. I went to my husbands doctor with him and he asked if he could take a readers digest from the office to look at some jokes. He was given permission to take it. I started to read it in the car and saw an article on Dr. John Antoniou who was giving articular resurfacing in Montreal. At that time he was there only doctor in Canada that was doing this surgery. When I read the article I got very excited because it seemed to me, less invasive and more successful. I called him and made an appointment.

It turned out that I was a good candidate, good bones for a 67 years old, hallelujah I immediately cancelled the surgery that was scheduled in Toronto. I had the first hip done August 19th 2007. I was up walking the following day. The most difficult thing was going to the bathroom. I was in hospital for four days and drove back home from Montreal. It was a five hour drive in a small vehicle. I was okay and I recovered in our little motor home, which is where we were living at the time because we were snowbirds going down to Florida in winter and returning to Canada in summer.

I won't lie, it was a painful recovery, but after about 4 weeks I was in less pain than before the surgery. I was back to work at 4 weeks. I recovered well. The second surgery was July 18 2009. I felt this was much easier the second time. I suppose I knew what it was all about, so perhaps less stressful. The Jewish General Hospital in Montreal where I had both surgeries was a great hospital. They took very good care of me. The only problem I had was a crazy roommate who was having a colon scope done and she kept me up all night moaning and groaning and poopin' her brains out. She almost knocked me over rushing past me to beat me to the bathroom. That was probably the worst part of that experience.

I am still not back to where I am with the other hip, but a lot less pain than before I had it done.

I have to admit that I sometimes feel if I will ever feel normal again, like I mean running on the treadmill, or high kicking, but then I am going to be seventy in March so even if I never had the hip problem I wouldn't be jumping around. But I'm able to dance. I consider it the luckiest day when I discovered Dr. Antoniou and articular resurfacing. The only complaint I have with my new steel hips is that now my husband calls me "The Nutcracker". Although people get a laugh when I tell them, and I like to see people laugh.
