Hip Resurfacing News

Jerome Camiola

BHR August 9, 2007  Dr. Balasubramanian

August 21, 2007

I write this testimonial in the hope that it may help others, who have Osteo Arthritis of the hip, to choose the best treatment. I am a 53 year old native New Yorker. For the last 5 years I have had increasing pain in my right hip which I tried to control with exercise and less walking. In October of 2006 I was struck by a car and the subsequent x-rays revealed that the right hip arthritis was far advanced, with the left hip showing less advanced deterioration.

I consulted the Head of Orthopaedic Surgery of a major New York Metropolitan Hospital who told me that my only option was a Total Hip Replacement. I researched the matter myself on the internet and found that a more advanced, less invasive procedure, called Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, had been developed in England, and had been successfully used in thousands of cases. From other testimonials and particularly from his article in “The Hindu Health Watch”, I determined that Dr. G. Balasubramanian was one of the world’s leading practitioners of BHR.

He graciously welcomed my to his center at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. I was met at the airport by his assistant and the Doctor took blood tests that very evening. The next day I was admitted to hospital and the day after the surgery was performed. Soon after I woke from the anesthesia, I realized that the old bone grinding pain in my right hip was gone. On the third day I was able to get out of bed and begin physical therapy.

Every day since (Day 12 at this writing) has seen an improvement in strength and mobility and I will be returning home in 2 days. Dr. Balasubramanian is a supremely competent surgeon, but he is also a modest and caring doctor. His explanations are simple and accurate enough for a layman and I urge you to read his article noted above.

I would also like to comment on Sri Ramakrishna hospital and its staff. This hospital is a charitable institution and a teaching hospital dedicated to the highest standards of holistic care. The doctors, nurses and all other staff are dedicated to their work as a calling, not just a job. The result for me was a seamless recovery for which I will be forever grateful.
