Hello Hippies, I am home with my new ceramic THR. I came
home on Wednesday after having the surgery on Monday.
All I have to say is this surgery was very painful. I passed
out in the chair the first night ( I think from the pain)
and received 3 units of blood only one my own. I am much
better now.
Well we are not sure exactly what went wrong with the BHR (
we don't have all the tests back, they sent some to London
and some to Pat Campbell) the cup had only one fourth of
bone grown in and the bone where the stem from the femoral
component was darkened inside. Dr. Barrack also said they
are finding out the majority of people with problem are
women of my stature ( 5'2" and 114lbs). So all in all this
will be a better fit for me.
I do not regret starting with the BHR, it was wonderful for
the year or so it lasted. The BHR was a breeze compared to
this one. I was extremely happy with Dr. Barrack, he was on
top of the game the entire time. Now on the recovery and
looking forward to a pain free and active life with my
husband and three kids.

Thank you everyone for your support. I saw my OS and after
we discussed what might be going on with my BHR I going to
have a ceramic THR on the 14th. My OS talked and sent my
films and labs to Mr. Treacy, McMinn and another top doc
from L.A. I may have a rare condition where I do not produce
enough fluid to lubricate the metal on metal joint, this
causes it to be a metal on metal instead of metal, fluid and
then metal. It's kinda like trying to run an engine without
oil.
So my metal ions came back high and when they attempted to
aspirate from the joint they could not ( you should have
5-10 ml on a normal joint). Or possible soft tissue has
grown around the implant. So with the metal allergy? no
joint fliud and on and off pain, we have decided to go with
the THR sadly. Also Dr. Barrack (my OS ) is going to send a
tissue sample and my implant to Pat Campbell.
